Restoration & Re-use of Existing Facilities An extension of D’Huy Engineering, Inc.’s brownstone renovation work includes providing design services to re- store and rehabilitate existing structures for re-use. Typ- ically these projects involve a change in occupancy or use of a current facility, which often requires re-eval- uation of floor capacities. Revitalizing existing struc- tures to create an updated more usable space that bene- fits the community where it is located is a very rewarding aspect of this work. Accommodating varying floor heights, preserving the exterior facade, and integrating new con- struction with the existing structure are a few of the design challenges associated with these projects.

Foundation Systems, Retaining Walls & Sea Wall Structures D’Huy Engineering, Inc. is experienced in the analysis and de- sign of projects involving earth and water retaining systems, foundations and sea wall structures. Environmental and Civil Engineering firms as well as the Military sector rely on DEI for the design and development of retaining wall solutions. Our retaining wall projects range from soldier pile sheeting and shoring design for contractors in rural and urban areas to concrete and steel seawall structures for the Navy along the Atlantic Coastline. As dictated by specific project cri- teria, we have also provided our clients with foundation solutions using deep foundation systems consisting of wood timbers piles, steel mini-pile systems, and precast concrete piles in both land and water applications.

Brownstone & Historic Structure Renovations Since 1994 D’Huy Engineering, Inc. has successfully com- pleted over 100 brownstone renovation projects in the New York City metro area, with a majority of them falling within the Landmarks Preservation Commission’s (LPC) control. We find that the uniqueness of each structure and the challenges of each renovation, whether large or small, make this type of work both enjoyable and rewarding. DEI works closely with the owner, architect and often the contractor to develop proj- ect requirements for specific design aspects and determine material selection for structural components.
