CASE STUDY: Cottingham Stadium & Field House Reconstruction - Locker Room

FIELD HOUSE & LOCKER ROOM: The existing two-story, 7,500 SF fieldhouse at Cottingham Stadium, originally constructed in 1956, received a full renovation as part of the stadium reconstruction project in 2021. The renovation included gutting the interior walls and floors, constructing a new 340 SF addition, and adding a centrally located elevator to provide accessible paths throughout the building. The crown jewel of the project are the home, visitor, and cheerleader locker rooms which have a collegiate feel and feature custom lockers, new athletic flooring, accent lighting, and completely updated shower and bathroom facilities. Before the finishing touches could be applied, some behind the scenes work needed to occur. Multiple Prime contracts provided a new variable refrigerant HVAC system, under-slab and above ceiling plumbing, and upgraded electrical and telecommunication systems. The building envelope needed the subfloors to be leveled, new waterproofing and air/vapor barriers to be added to the existing walls, and a new roof to be installed. The exterior of the building received new metal panel façade, a fresh coat of paint on the existing brick, new windows anddoors, andcustomsignage. Thefieldhouse renovationaccounted for approximately $2.8 million of the total $13.6 million construction project.

HVAC UPGRADES

D’Huy Engineering, Inc. has been directly involved with the evaluation, reinforcement, design and/or construction of new Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment for numerous existing buildings. Whether for new equipment that is being installed on the roof of a high rise building in New York City, or onto the roof of a single-story school building in Pennsylvania, the approach to the project remains the same: determine the needs of the Client and their building, evaluate the structure to determine the best place(s) to install the newHVAC equipment, design support for the unit, evaluate possible clashes between the new system components and existing materials within the building, and execute the installation within the required timeframe. Working with firms that specialize in the design of HVAC systems, DEI personnel are integrated into the process from the start of design. With extensive knowledge of different types of HVAC systems, our team assists in the selection of system that is most efficient for the Client. From system selection through installation and then testing and balancing of the system to ensure proper performance, DEI provides the Client with experienced engineering and construction professionals to get the job done right, on time, and on budget.
